Sinus Brady

  • common complication of MI
  • discontinue offending meds
  • treat hypothermia, electrolyte imbalances
  • if symptomatic, may require pacemaker
  • can be complicated by torsades

Sick Sinus Syndrome

  • most common indication for pacemaker placement

1st degree AV block

  • prolonged PR interval (> 200 msec)
  • can treat with atropine or dopamine

2nd degree AV block (Mobitz 1)

  • gradually lengthening PR interval, followed by a dropped beat and resetting of the PR interval

2nd degree AV block (Mobitz 2)

  • dropped beats without preceding PR interval prolongation
  • frequently progresses to 3rd degree AV block
  • requires pacemaker placement

3rd degree AV block

  • complete heart block, atrial and ventricle rhythms no longer connected
  • common complication of MI
  • requires pacemaker placement
